Insurance for Restaurants

We place every line a restaurant needs — liquor liability, workers' comp, commercial auto and more — and we lead with the coverage that protects the whole operation: a businessowners policy, shopped across carriers for the best qualified price.

A full program, led by the BOP

Every coverage a restaurant requires — starting with the one that covers property and liability together.

KHT places the complete program for restaurants: a businessowners policy that bundles property and general liability, plus liquor liability, workers' compensation, commercial auto for delivery or catering, and umbrella. Whatever your concept carries, we can quote it and bring it under one roof — so your certificates and renewals stop being a scramble.

But we lead with the businessowners policy, because it's the foundation every restaurant needs — and we build liquor liability and the rest on top of it.

Businessowners Policy + Liquor Liability

Few businesses pack as much risk into one building: the buildout and kitchen equipment, guests who can slip or get sick, and — if you serve alcohol — liquor liability, a serious exposure a standard policy won't cover on its own.

It's also priced differently by concept. A quick-service spot, a full-service restaurant, and a bar don't face the same claims — and the carriers who price them well aren't the same.

That's what an independent broker is for: matching your concept to the market that prices it best — on margins that don't leave room to overpay.

Property & businessowners policy

Your buildout, kitchen equipment, and inventory, plus general liability for guest injuries — bundled as the foundation of the program.

Liquor liability

The serious exposure that comes with serving alcohol — covered where a standard liability policy leaves off.

Workers' compensation

Medical and wage coverage for a kitchen and floor staff working around heat, blades, and grease every shift.

If your business needs it, we likely write it.

Eighteen commercial lines across four areas — from the policies every business carries to specialty and surety coverage.

Concepts we place

Built for the range of food service.

What and how you serve drives the coverage, so we don't hand every concept the same form. Tell us your concept and whether you serve alcohol, and we'll ask what actually applies.

Early renewal quotes

We quote your renewal well ahead of expiration — giving you time to review and compare, not a take-it-or-leave-it the day before.

Multiple carriers, lowest qualified quote

We shop across markets and recommend the best-fit, best-priced option.

Owners on your account

An established, owner-led team. When you call, you speak directly with the people responsible for protecting your business.

The renewal difference

Why timing is the A&E hot button.

Most design firms don't switch brokers because of a claim. They switch because their current broker put them in a corner — renewal terms the day before expiration, no time to shop. Here's how we run it instead.

At placement

We start early

We look at your concept, your alcohol sales, your revenue, and your buildout — and place it with carriers who price food service fairly.

Ahead of renewal

We quote early

Your renewal gets shopped well before expiration, so you're comparing options rather than accepting a last-minute number on a tight margin.

As you grow

The program scales

A second location, a new patio, catering — we adjust the program so coverage keeps pace with the business.

common questions

The questions Restaurants ask.

Do I need liquor liability if I already have general liability?

Yes, if you serve alcohol. General liability generally excludes alcohol-related claims, so liquor liability is a separate coverage that responds when serving a patron leads to a loss. It's one of the most important lines for any restaurant with a bar.

What's a businessowners policy and do I need one?

A BOP bundles commercial property and general liability into one policy — a convenient, cost-effective foundation for most restaurants. We build from there with liquor liability, workers' comp, and anything else your concept needs.

Is my kitchen equipment covered if it breaks down?

It can be. Property coverage handles damage, and equipment breakdown coverage responds to mechanical or electrical failure of the kitchen equipment you can't operate without. We'll make sure the limits reflect your buildout.

My landlord requires proof of insurance — can you handle that?

Yes. Commercial leases routinely require coverage, specific limits, and naming the landlord as additional insured. Send us the lease requirements and we'll place coverage that meets them, then issue the certificate.

Can you cover a second location or a food truck?

Yes. Whether you're expanding to another storefront or adding a mobile operation, we fold it into your program — one broker, one renewal cycle, one point of contact.

Do I have to move everything to work with you?

No. Many owners come to us for the BOP or liquor liability first, then consolidate the rest later. There's no requirement — the BOP is where we lead.

Quote your restaurant coverage.

Start with a businessowners policy or your whole program — tell us about the restaurant and we'll shop it. Or call and talk it through with the people who'll actually handle your account.
