Commercial Auto Insurance

Coverage for the vehicles that keep your business moving

Personal auto policies exclude business use. If your company owns, leases, or uses vehicles for work, commercial auto covers the liability and physical damage — and we shop it with multiple insurance companies to fit your fleet, whether it's one truck or (twenty) one hundred.

What Commercial auto covers

Business vehicles need business coverage.

Commercial auto insurance covers the vehicles your business owns, leases, or and the drivers who operate them. If a company vehicle is involved in an accident, the policy covers your liability for injuries and property damage to others, plus physical damage to your own vehicles. It's the commercial equivalent of a personal auto policy, built for the higher exposures a business carries.

The critical point many owners miss is that a personal auto policy will not respond to a business-use claim. If an employee causes an accident while driving for work — even in their own car — the gap can land squarely on the business. Commercial auto, together with hired and non-owned auto coverage, is what closes that gap.

Fleets vary enormously, from a single service van to a mix of trucks, trailers, and executive vehicles, and pricing follows the risk: vehicle types, radius of operation, cargo, and driver records all factor in. Matching that specific profile to the carrier that prices it best is where shopping the market pays off.

common questions

The questions we hear the most

Can't I just use my personal auto policy for my work truck?

No. Personal auto policies exclude regular business use, and a claim can be denied on that basis. If a vehicle is used for your business, it needs commercial auto coverage.

What is hired and non-owned auto coverage?

It covers vehicles your business doesn't own but uses — rentals, and employees' personal cars driven for work. Without it, a business-use accident in an employee's own vehicle can expose the company directly. We usually recommend it even for businesses with no owned vehicles.

Does commercial auto cover my employees as drivers?

Yes — drivers you authorize are covered while operating covered vehicles for business. Driver records affect your pricing, which is why carriers look at who's behind the wheel.

How is commercial auto priced?

By the vehicles, their use, where and how far they travel, what they carry, and your drivers' records. The most reliable way to a real number is to let us shop it. Start a quote or call and we'll compare your options.
