Beginning in 2014 the tax penalty for not having health insurance is $95 for an individual and $285 for a family - or 1% of your income, whichever is greater.

The tax penalty rises in 2015 and by 2016 it is $695 for an individual and $2,085 for a family - or 2.5% of your income, whichever is greater.
